Stratford-on-Avon is the pretty town in Warwickshire where William Shakespeare was born, lived, and where he died.

For visitors, the many interesting sights include Shakespeare’s birthplace (16th Century), the remains of his house, New Place, and the lovely Church of the Holy Trinity where he is buried. The gentle River Avon runs past the Shakespeare Theatre, and the Kennet and Avon canal starts here. His wife, Anne Hathaway’s cottage, is nearby.

At Shakespeare's Birthplace you will enjoy professional actors who will act out scenes from Shakespeare's Plays, such as Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, and Othello! And you will probably be able to meet and chat with them!

The beautiful Cotswolds are hills deep in the countryside, with lovely ancient picture-postcard villages with small shops, pubs and tea-rooms ideal for a typical English Afternoon Tea of scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam - yummee!

Shakespeare Quotes:

On Love -

When I saw you I fell in love, and you smiled because you knew...

If music be the food of love, play on...

My bounty is as deep as the sea,

My love as deep; the more I give to thee,

The more I have, for both are infinite.

Journeys end in lovers meeting.

On Flowers -

When daisies pied and violets blue

And lady-smocks all silver-white

And cuckoo-buds of yellow hue

Do paint the meadows with delight,

The cuckoo then, on every tree,

Mocks married men; for thus sings he,

Cuckoo; Cuckoo, Cuckoo:

O, word of fear,

Unpleasing to a married ear!

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull'd in these flowers with dances and delight.
